The University Partnership for Atmospheric Sciences (UPAS) is an initiative from the ten German universities offering consecutive Bachelor's (BSc) and Master's (MSc) programs in the field of meteorology. UPAS aims at strengthening and developing meteorology as a subject and field of research at German universities through coordinated research and teaching, and at increasing the visibility of meteorology both at these universities and in the society.
Since February 2025, Corinna Hoose (co-speaker of HErZ, ICON-SmART, KIT) is the co-chair of UPAS.
UPAS is organized in five workpackages and three of them are coordinated by HErZ project investigators:
- “Attracting suitable students” (Susanne Crewell, HIRES-APP, Univ. Cologne)
- “Excellent education” (Felix Ament, OceanWeather, Univ. Hamburg)
- “Social and community outreach” (Henning Rust, WEXICOM, Freie Univ. Berlin).
