The 2nd annual meeting of HErZ took place at the DWD headquarters in Offenbach from 18-20 March 2025. About 80 scientists from the HErZ community and DWD took part in the event. The project leaders reported on ongoing joint activities and on the progress made in each of the seven HErZ projects. The early career scientists (ECS) presented their results in more detail during several poster sessions. Many lively discussions took place with different groups of colleagues, e.g. with the scientific advisory board of HErZ (“Programmrat”), the expert contact persons ("fachliche Ansprechpersonen") and DWD colleagues.

The ECS organized their own meeting where they visited the forecasting centre at DWD, learned about the current state of research in data assimilation at DWD (see photo below), learned about the DWD datasets available to the HErZ community, and about the visualisation tool NinJo. They also discussed joint activities to take place at the next annual meeting and elected two representatives to present the past and planned ECS activities at the next annual meetings.
